Keith in the Carport
Devon and I just moved to a house on Beacon Hill and we quickly learned that a man named Keith and his wife were living in our carport. Our carport is detached from the house and down at the sidewalk level. When I got home from work today and was walking up to the house, I saw a man prying his way through the broken carport roll-down door. I asked if he was Keith and he said yes. I introduced myself and he shook my hand and said hello. I could smell liquor on his breathe but he seemed nice. About an hour and a half later Roxy barks to let me know someone is at the door. I turn on the porch light and look through the peep hole and all I can see is that someone was holdng a food dish with foil wrapped over it. I slowly opened the door and there is a woman standing there. I say hello and she begins to tell me (with liquor on her breath, speaking very slowly) that her name is Jo Ellen and she has been living in the carport since November. It is her place and if Keith acts up she will tell him to leave because, see, she can get her own dinner. She said she is homeless and I said not really because she has the carport. She kissed me on the cheek and hugged me. As she was walking away I said, "Take it easy" and she says, "I love you too girl".
